What is a Parent Support Group? What is it for?Our Parent Support Group is a gathering of people who are part of an LGBTQ2+ person's life. This can include more than just their parents, but also friends and extended family. People who come to our Parent Support Group are welcomed into a safe space where people can express themselves, share their journeys with their loved ones, and ask questions.

Testimonials
David and the parents support group have helped me understand better that there are other parents with the same challenges and love as me. I have felt understood, reassured and somehow feel like I belong with other people like me; which is particularly important for since I am an immigrant and do not have family here. My sincere thank you to David, Sarah, all the parents and collaborators for your support.

I participated in the parent group when it was online in 2021 - indeed it was the only active parents group I could find in Montreal at the time. It was becoming increasingly clear that our 6 yr old was trans. This is totally fine with us, their parents, but given the recent heated backlash against trans people in the US, bleeding into Canada, and the medical decisions we knew would come our way, this was a scary moment as a parent. The West Island support group was lovely - there was something calming and reassuring being among parents from all different walks of life who loved and supported their kids who wanted to discuss the parenting journey. There were several parents of older trans kids, enabling us to peer into the future a bit. Thank you!

The Parent Support group was invaluable to our family. The group provided a rare safe and non-judgmental space to share and process difficult feelings. From finding the right resources to helping me understanding what my child was going through, I benefitted tremendously from hearing about the experiences of the other parents. This was key to my ability to support my child through a difficult and vulnerable time for our family.

The program was very important for me and my husband to understand LGBTQIA+ because we had never been so close to this issue. We wanted to understand the interest of our child and to show him that we are happy to have a child as it is. We wanted to know how the system is working and how the kids are encouraged to question themselves about their identity at so young age. I guess there is still a lot of scientific work to be done to assure what is the best way to raise kids.

We humbly and gratefully acknowledge that we are gathered on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehà:Ka (Mohawk) people. This land has historically served as a meeting place for many Indigenous nations, including the Haudenosaunee and the Anishinaabe, and is currently home to Indigenous communities from across Turtle Island and the world.
