Launched at the first ever West Island Pride event in September 2024, the Theo-Roger Community Impact Award, is dedicated to the outstanding members of our community who have had a significant positive impact in the community.
Each year the Theo-Roger Community Impact award is awarded to a community member that has had an outstanding impact on the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and/or 2SLGBTQIA+ rights (especially in the West Island of Montreal). Impact on the community is broadly defined and can include but is not limited to;
Deadline to submit a nomination: Friday, August 1st, 2025 |
About the Award:
The Theo-Roger Community Impact Award was created in honour of the legacy of Roger Thibault and Theo Wouters. In 2002 Roger and Theo became the first same sex couple to be joined in a civil union in Quebec, and one of the first same sex unions in North America. In the years since, Theo and Roger faced significant challenges of homophobia in the community, but continued to fight against that discrimination in the hopes of building a society where 2SLGBTQIA+ people are accepted and have equal rights.
We were grateful to have been able to honour and celebrate Theo and his late husband, Roger, for all of their work, at the first West Island Pride event, and are proud to continue to honour their legacy and their spirit every year.
