LGBTQIA+ Migrant and Refugee Support Coordinator

Contract Details

Temporary Part-Time (with possibility of extension)
6 month contract (September 12th, 2022 - April 17th, 2023_
$16.00/hour
16 hours/week

Skill Requirements

  1. Fluently bilingual (French/English); written, spoken, and comprehension.
  2. Strong verbal communication (example. Phone calls, meetings, and presentations).
  3. Computer proficiency (office suite).
  4. Knowledge of and/or experience with the Immigration process and/or refugee claim process.
  5. Prior experience in a community service setting.
  6. Ability to work autonomously and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Job Specifics

​Specifically, the position of Coordinator has these key responsibilities:
  1. Programming
  2. Community Outreach
  3. Administrative Functions 

Responsibility: Programming

50% of time.
  1. Development of programming.
  2. To schedule the program meetings and to schedule & coordinate related activities (including discussions, workshops, speakers, games, and other activities).
  3. To be present at the program meeting, and to facilitate meetings.
  4. To prepare, set-up and take down (cleaning) for each meeting.
  5. To ensure all participants are engaged and welcomed, and that confidentiality is maintained.
  6. To ensure required documentation is completed (Code of Ethics is provided and explained, appropriate consents are received as required and emergency contact information is on file).
  7. To bring forth ideas and needs for improvement.
  8. To coordinate major events which may include Montreal Pride, or fundraising events.
  9. To provide leadership for offsite activities which may include outings and various other initiatives as deemed of interest and benefit.

Responsibility: 
Community Outreach

25% of time.
  1. To connect with new participants and prospective participants regarding the programs.​
  2. To develop and carry out community outreach programs for High Schools, CEGEPs and Universities.
  3. To build relationships with other organizations, and pursue community partnerships.
  4. To work on communications in partnership with the Executive Director and other team members (social media and website).
  5. To identify programs and services consistent with community needs and to facilitate referral pathways.
  6. Participate in community coalitions and round-tables, discussion panels, media opportunities and other networking opportunities which bring awareness to the organization and broaden the reach of the organization for those we service.

Responsibility:
Administrative Functions

25% of time.
  1. To ensure computer data is appropriate, safely and confidentially maintained.
  2. To maintain efficient and organised lines of communication and to respond to email and phone correspondence promptly.
  3. To oversee the volunteers (if and as required) and develop a working schedule. This is meant as a future progression and may not apply during the term of this mandate.
  4. To design, create and update relevant documents, including but not limited to resources.
  5. To conduct research in line with the needs of programming, grant applications, and/or other important topics in LGBTQ2+ realities and the realities of Migrant and Refugee communities. 
  6. To maintain an accounting of work hours and the time devoted to different tasks.
